About your counselling session

Counselling offers a safe and supportive environment where you can talk openly without fear of judgement. Sessions are shaped around your needs rather than following a rigid structure, allowing you to explore what feels most important to you at your own pace. Whether you are dealing with a specific issue or a more general sense of feeling stuck or overwhelmed, therapy provides the space to begin understanding your thoughts, emotions, and experiences more clearly.

Sessions are usually held on a weekly or 2 month basis, creating consistency and allowing meaningful progress over time. This regular space helps build trust and enables deeper exploration where needed. Some people come with clear goals, while others use counselling as a way to process and reflect. There is no fixed approach — the process is guided by you.

There is no set number of sessions, as everyone’s situation is different. Some clients benefit from short-term support, while others choose to continue for longer to work through more complex or ongoing concerns. We can review this together as therapy progresses, ensuring it continues to feel useful and appropriate for you.

Sessions last 50 minutes and are typically held weekly or 2 x month. You can choose between online sessions or attending in person at “The Practice” in Southbourne, depending on your preference. Payment can be made via bank transfer, card machine or cash. If you are unsure which option is best for you, this can be discussed when you first get in touch.

If you need to cancel or rearrange a session, at least 24 hours’ notice is required. Late cancellations may be charged at the full session fee.

Choosing to begin counselling is an investment in your mental and emotional health. Many clients find that therapy helps them feel more in control, improve relationships, and gain clarity around difficult situations, making you more resilient to these issues. The benefits of counselling often extends beyond the sessions themselves, supporting long-term wellbeing and resilience.
