About Me
I’m Genevieve Smith, a qualified counsellor and psychotherapist based in Bournemouth. I work with individuals, teens/ adults and couples, offering a calm, supportive space where you can talk openly and begin to understand what’s going on with you.
I have spent several years working in the counselling field, with a strong focus on mental health and wellbeing. That experience has shaped the way I work today, placing importance on listening to you, understanding each person as an individual, and creating a space where you feel safe to explore whatever has brought you to therapy, without judgement.
How I Work
I work as an integrative therapist, which means I don’t take a fixed or rigid approach. Instead, I draw on different therapeutic methods depending on what suits you best.
Everyone’s experience is different, and therapy should reflect that. Some people want to focus on a specific issue, while others need space to explore things more gradually. My role is to work alongside you, adapting sessions so that you feel comfortable, supported, and able to talk about what matters most.
A Space to Talk
Reaching out for counselling can feel like a big step, and it’s completely normal to feel unsure about where to begin.
My aim is to provide a space where you feel heard, respected, and able to talk without judgement. From there, we can begin to understand what’s going on and work towards a way forward that feels manageable and meaningful for you.
Experience and Qualifications
I hold a Level 5 Professional Diploma in Psychotherapy and Counselling, alongside a Level 4 diploma in Supervision. I am also a member of the National Counselling and psychotherapy Society and work in line with their ethical framework.
Alongside my formal training, my background in the care sector has given me experience supporting people through a wide range of personal and emotional challenges.
My Approach to Therapy
Counselling is not about being told what to do. It’s about creating the space to understand yourself more clearly and to work through whatever you are facing at your own pace.
Together, we will explore what has brought you to therapy, look at patterns or experiences that may be affecting you, and begin to find a way forward that feels right for you. The process is collaborative, and it develops over time rather than following a set structure.
Who I Work With
I work with adults, teenagers, and couples, supporting people through a range of difficulties including anxiety, relationship issues, and low self-esteem.
Whether you are dealing with something specific or simply feel that something isn’t quite right, therapy offers the opportunity to explore this in a supportive and confidential environment.
