Counselling & Psychotherapy in Bournemouth
If you’re struggling with anxiety, low mood, relationship issues or feeling overwhelmed, it can be difficult to know where to turn. Speaking to someone in a safe, confidential setting can help you begin to make sense of what you’re experiencing and look at ways to understand it and move forward.
I’m Genevieve Smith, a qualified counsellor and psychotherapist offering professional counselling in Bournemouth. I work with individuals and couples, providing a calm, supportive space where you can talk openly and without judgement.
Sessions are available both online and in person from my private garden office, “The Practice”, based in Southbourne. This gives you the flexibility to choose what feels most comfortable for you.
How I Work
I work as an integrative therapist, which means I don’t take a fixed or rigid approach. Instead, I draw on different therapeutic methods depending on what suits you best.
Everyone’s experience is different, and therapy should reflect that. Some people want to focus on a specific issue, while others need space to explore things more gradually. My role is to work alongside you, adapting sessions so that you feel comfortable, supported, and able to talk about what matters most.
A Space to Talk
Reaching out for counselling can feel like a big step, and it’s completely normal to feel unsure about where to begin.
My aim is to provide a space where you feel heard, respected, and able to talk without judgement. From there, we can begin to understand what’s going on and work towards a way forward that feels manageable and meaningful for you.
A Personal Approach to Counselling
Everyone’s life experiences are different, therefore therapy should fit to your own personal life experience. That’s why my sessions are shaped around you, allowing time to explore your thoughts, emotions, and experiences at your own pace.
Some people come to counselling with a clear issue they want to work through, while others simply are not sure but know that something just doesn’t feel right. Whatever brings you here, the focus is on helping you understand what’s going on in your world and supporting you through these changes.
Areas I Can Support You With
I work with a range of issues including anxiety, low self esteem, relationship difficulties, stress, bereavement, sexuality and trauma.
Therapy can also be really beneficial if you are struggling with feeling stuck, or trying to navigate a significant life change.
Rather than focusing only on your symptoms, my sessions help look at the wider picture, helping you understand patterns, process experiences, and develop a stronger sense of clarity and direction.
Counselling in Bournemouth and Southbourne
If you are looking for counselling in Bournemouth, I offer both online sessions and face-to-face appointments from “The Practice” in Southbourne. The space is private, calm, and designed to help you feel at ease. Whether you prefer the convenience of online therapy or the experience of meeting in person, both options provide the same level of care and attention.
What to Expect From Counselling
Taking the first step into therapy can feel uncomfortable, especially if you have never experienced it before. Sessions provide a consistent, confidential space where you can talk freely and begin to explore what is affecting you without judgement. There is no pressure to have everything figured out. The process develops over time, with each session building a clearer understanding of your situation and how you would like things to change.
Fees and Sessions
Sessions last 50 minutes and are typically held on a weekly or bi-weekly basis. Individual counselling is £65 per session, and couples counselling is £95.
If you would like more detail about how sessions work or what to expect, you can visit the fees page or get in touch directly.
Experience and Qualifications
I hold a Level 5 Professional Diploma in Psychotherapy and Counselling, alongside a Level 4 diploma in Supervision. I am also a member of the National Counselling and psychotherapy Society and work in line with their ethical framework.
Alongside my formal training, my background in the care sector has given me experience supporting people through a wide range of personal and emotional challenges.
